hello my name is Carl McCrory and i have been living in Provo for the last 5 years attending BYU. During these years rock canyon has been a constant source of adventure and refuge for me. i am an avid rock climber and have had some of my best climbing experiences right here in rock canyon along with countless other climbers i know. when i heard that this canyon was under threat of being quarried i was shocked that such an idea could possibly be conceived. now i am not familiar with all of the details of what would actually happen to the canyon, but any alteration to the beauty of this area would be devastating to rock climbers, hikers, mountain bikers and nature lovers at large. not to mention the potential threat it poses towards the wildlife. this also poses a potential problem to students of geology. one of my favorite experiences in rock canyon was as a geology student on a field trip to learn of all the different rock formations present in one location. this experience increased my understanding and appreciation for the rock that i climb.

I love Rock Canyon. I frequent the canyon a lot. It is five minutes from my home. I go with friends, my husband or other families to hike, picnic or just walk. It is a refuge for our family and it is so accessable that we love it.

I hope the forest service is considering the problems with dust, polution of water or the water supply when letting this man mine up that canyon, not to mention the addional traffic that could cause injury to many hikers that go up to that canyon on a daily basis. I hope you will preserve this wonderful recreation spot not only for my family, but for thousands of others here in Provo.

I request that the Forest Service use their influence to preserve Rock Canyon from being mined. Not only do we enjoy hiking there but bought a home here to enjoy the beauty and serenity of this gorgeous site. I urge you to help in providing a land swap for this man who is so set on defacing Provo and our neighborhood for his financial goals.
You have a great opportunity to preserve a canyon that is so accessible to the citizens of our valley that it is used more than other canyons in the area for serenity, physical exercise and the appreciation of nature.
Please act upon this important matter!

I would like to help prevent Rock Canyon near Provo from becoming another gravel pit or something similar. I am over 50 years old and I grew up in the Provo riverbottoms. I have hiked and enjoyed Rock Canyon and I consider it a natural treasure. I think we should consider future generations living in the Provo area, not just short-term gain for a few people. With that said, I would like to request some form of conservation action by the Forest Service. My understanding is that Forest lands are public lands.
